You're right, it would be awful for the game if there was a build that would allow you to clear multiple groups of enemies at once with little risk to your safety. My minions will not attack them unless I stand right on top of them. Or rather thats just my opinion.But overall Im happy that we have the option at all :). The Feeding Frenzy assistance gem makes supported minions aggressive, rising the variety that they will seek out out enemies.

Stone Golems are tenacious and stick much longer to their targets than other minions do. Skeletons do whatever the ♥♥♥♥ they want, a good idea is to attach them to a spell totem so that they constantly appear on top of enemies. With Specters, Zombies and Animated they'll attack the radius around where you've placed a totem, so you can keep them fighting by keeping totems up. The offering gems are also very worth it for a summoner.
Feeding Frenzy Support is a minion support skill gem. Each type of minion does have a slightly different AI though. But w/o aggressive behavour the srs have stupid aggrorange.
